To celebrate summer fun, Redbox is asking moms, “What’s the best animated movie that both kids and parents can enjoy?” Plus, they are rewarding 2 lucky people with a chance to win $10,000 as part of the Redbox Summer of Fun & Games Sweepstakes.
Last month I got naked, got in my tub and sang for you to show you my favorite movie line. Yes, I love The Jerk that much.
Well, kids can’t watch The Jerk. So we look for movies that everyone can enjoy. As parents we are experts in this, right? We know what movies are unbearable for grown ups, which films are tolerable but just for kids and which movies make us laugh and cry and fall in love while our kids find new inspiration and heros.
There are so many movies I love to watch with my kids. I myself am partial to the Disney Princess movies because I just love to sing. We also love us some Monsters Inc. and when my kids get older we will so be watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It is awesome. When I thought about a movie we all love, I chose a movie that makes us all laugh with jokes for kids and adults, has a great plot, teaches a lesson and has a little romance too.
My choice is Shrek. This will not come as a surprise to anyone who knows me as a I regularly quote So I Married an Axe Murderer. I think Mike Meyers is hilarious as a human and he did not disappoint as an ogre.
The kids see an adorable story of adventure and finding true love based on what is really important, what is on the inside. I love this message as I struggle with my 4 year old daughter’s vision of what a perfect princess looks like. Finally, Sophia is seeing that Fiona is beautiful as an ogre. The characters are hilarious for little ones from the fantastic Donkey and his gorgeous dragon to the Fairy Godmother and the group of fairy tale characters that comprise Shrek’s friends and saviors. With Eddie Murphy as Donkey and John Lithgow as Lord Farquaad this is a movie made for all ages.
Shrek has humor for us big people, from sexy jokes to penis jokes to plays on words and current popular love shows like The Bachelorette we all laugh long and hard. Of course there is some potty humor too, which appeals to all of us and our seedier sides. I admit I find potty jokes funny. And you know I am a mom of young kids because potty is what I call the toilet.
Shrek and his story top our list for Best Animated Movie! Now what’s yours? Share it in the little box that shows my picture (comments are turned off) and join Redbox for your chance to win $10,000 from Redbox!
