Should Parents Vacation without Our Kids?

Should Parents Vacation without Our Kids? Thumbnail
I read a post this morning that shocked me entitled “Why parents should never go on vacation without their children”. Later, the title reverted to what the author originally penned, “When Parents Think They Can Go On Vacation”. I’m pretty sure a bajllion people clicked just because of one of those titles. I’m also sure a fair number of people got the ickies reading the post. Was I shocked that a major site would whip up the most controversial title possible? No. It seems these sites and many a blogger Read More...

How Can We Prevent Bullying? Start with Our Own Children.

Small children experience bullying.  Childhood bullies are as common as childhood friends, often, in my opinion, because the issue is not taken seriously at a young age. Image Credit: Safe Network Perhaps we think our children are simply fighting back, or learning to stick up for themselves. Perhaps we think kids will be kids and shrug off something that may seem like no big deal. Perhaps we can’t imagine our child being the one who hurts someone else, and may or may not do it deliberately. There may be many Read More...

Thoughts on Time and Intentional Love

Thoughts on Time and Intentional Love Thumbnail
I want to share an email I received from my father.  My father writes these thought filled emails to his friends throughout the world.  He was a minister while I was growing up and now works to renew Classical Education in America as the founder of Cambridge Advisory.  He has never been without words and while we do not always see eye to eye, yesterday his words moved me. Pin It Many of you know that I have an interfaith marriage and that Ross and I are raising our children Read More...

Don’t Judge a Girl on Her Looks {Unless you want to tell me you like my hair and it makes me look smart}

Don’t Judge a Girl on Her Looks {Unless you want to tell me you like my hair and it makes me look smart} Thumbnail
When I was pregnant with Miles, I cut my hair off. I got a bob.  I cut bangs at the same time.  I thought I looked sexy and more mature.  Women commented on my my new hair.   All the time.  That never happened with my long hair.  When I came home with my new do, my husband called me Natasha, like I was a Russian spy.  That’s what we call bad ass Russian ladies.  In my head I pictured some hot Russian spy and Alias and thought that must be Read More...

Sex Scares Me

Sophia had her 5th birthday party last night.  Her ocean theme was a big hit and after we sent all the kids home at bedtime post the flashlight seashell hunt we fell into chairs with some friends and some drinks.  Somehow the conversation turned to sex and I realized that one day my kids would have sex.  No, I am not an idiot…I just try not to think about it.  Then my husband casually mentioned something about 1o years from now.  Sophia will be 15.   I thought I was going Read More...

Is Living Social Really Offering a Concealed Handguns Class?

I love a good deal. I love new and fun activities. I check my email in the morning to see if there is anything good for my family. This morning, I saw that Living Social is offering its subscribers 50% off a NC Concealed Carry Handgun Class. Honestly, I was shocked and disappointed. This is a site dedicated to bringing new and fun social activities and the occasional spa package to our lives at a discount.  Learning about handguns is serious business, and as a huge advocate of gun control, Read More...

A Heartless Bachelor: Bentley

Bentley Bachelorette
Monday night I watched The Bachelorette with my little brother.  For the second episode in a row, I thought I would throw up in my mouth.  Normally I would not post about this, but I am still disturbed by this 2 days later.  Forgive me if I ramble.  One word: Bentley. Image from ABC.com. I changed it a little. He he he. Guys like this make me fear for my daughters and wonder how the hell he is the father of a 2 year old little girl.  This man went on this Read More...

Breastfeeding: Easier Said than Done

I need to get something off my chest.  The chest that has my boobs on it that fed all my children and still feed Violet.  Breastfeeding is easier said than done.  Violet is probably my last child (*weeping*) and I feel like I should share my journey as she is 14 months old and will start to wean in the coming months. It has come to my attention time and time again that many people assume I (and many other women) stuck with breastfeeding because it must have just clicked for me.  Read More...
