We have Christmas at our house. This is awesome in so many ways. Well, it really is fantastic just because we don’t have to pack up the kids and travel. We won the battle. Christmas comes to us. After spending our Thanksgiving in sunny Florida with family but in a hotel, I feel a certain longing to be back. While I am cleaning and doing laundry and shopping and cleaning and doing more laundry and cleaning again after another craft project, I remember just weeks ago we were swimming and hitting Disney World and other people were cleaning and we did do one load of laundry, but that is just what life is like with 3 dirty children. I said it then and now I say it again, with more passion. Hotel for the Holidays…yes please!
We stayed at the Hilton Bonnet Creek in Orlando and it was all kinds of lovely but this had us at hello. Okay, it is a massive pool with a lazy river and an awesome water slide and so many activities you could stay here all day and not even worry about Disney World. There are fireworks over the pool at night and you can see the fireworks from the parks from certain rooms. Yes, your kids might stay up a little late for those and wake up a little early for the pool but hey, it’s vacation!
I will tell you more about the Bonnet Creek, but first I will say that we are a Happy Hilton Family.
As a family, we hit Hilton properties quite often. Hello Embassy Suites! With more than 2 kids, a standard room is what we use only late at night when we stop driving and we stay in the cheapest of places but when we get where we are going we love to spread out a little. We love that the Embassy Suites has a little room to stretch out and usually is not a budget buster. Sometimes we splurge, and what I love about Hilton properties is that they always have special promotions and ways to save a little on a room with a lot. Last winter we stayed at one of their Hilton Grand Vacation Suites at Sea World and got both a great rate on the room and tickets to Sea World! A room with 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen and a dining room. Wahoo!
The Hilton Bonnet Creek is minutes from Walt Disney World and has shuttles to all of the parks as do most of the hotels in the area. You just feel a little more relaxed when you come back from a long day at the pool or in the parks and are surrounded by a little luxury. This is a vacation resort with the Waldorf Astoria Spa and Golf Course, kids club, 9 dining options and of course, one of the best pool areas we have ever been to.
We stayed in a Parlor Suite facing the parks so yes, we could see fireworks from our windows at night. The room was lovely and very large, with a master bedroom and a huge living room area with a fold out couch, a full dining room table, a desk area and a bar. We would have loved to have a little more kitchen in the room. A microwave and toaster would have made breakfast a breeze and having the refrigerator in that area rather than in the master would have helped. Sleeping arrangements were perfect. The beds are wonderfully comfortable and even the pull out was a memory foam mattress! There was tons of room to play in here, although we had to put a lot of lovely glass vases and such up and out of reach.
We could barely wake the kids up in this comfy bed to hit the Magic Kingdom in the morning!
We spent most of our time at the hotel eating or playing at the pool or sleeping, to be honest. With Magic Kingdom on our minds, we left and came back in the dark on our park days. But our pool day was perfect. Miles and Sophia adored this slide. There are life jackets for the kids and a lifeguard on duty while the slide is open. It lands in it’s own small pool and not in the larger pool, so it feels safer to me.
The whole family enjoyed the lazy river, which wraps around the entire enormous pool and while we did not spend money to rent a tube, it looked like a ton of fun. Next time we will bring our own tube. You know, tickets to Disney World are not inexpensive, so we prefer to not spend any more than we need to when outside the parks. I wish that more of the awesome activities offered at the hotel were included in the price of the room because the ids loved seeing the huge list of activities but did not love when we said we weren’t springing for them.
My favorite thing about the pool was for Violet. She spends most of her pool time in floaties and clinging to mom and dad, but here the zero degree and extremely shallow area was HUGE. The whole family could play together and relax with Violet doing her own thing. I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed this.
Overall, we loved the Hilton Bonnet Creek for the luxury and the space and the extremely friendly and responsive staff. And, of course, the pool. If I were to stay there again with my family, I would definitely request a room with a bathtub as the parlor suite we stayed in had only showers and the water stream was not adjustable and prickly feeling. It wasn’t that easy to wash the kiddos. Two adjoining rooms would be perfect.
As I sit here after cleaning up Christmas for a full day, I remember the day after Thanksgiving, when we arrived at the Hilton Bonnet Creek with nothing to do but relax and have fun. What a fabulous way to spend the holidays!
We are a part of the Hilton Family and with so many properties around the world, it is easy to find a place in your budget and with the amenities you need any place and any time of the year. Whether we are trying to build up Hilton Honors points or spending points to stay, it is an awesome hotel loyalty program. I would highly recommend joining. It is free and allows you to build up points good for hotel stays and also special treatment and benefits during your stay depending on your membership level. My mom’s husband just reached a MILLION points and let’s just say he loves Hilton and raves about the Hilton Honors program. Just being a member gets you great promotions that are worth signing up!
There are lots of ways besides hotel stays to earn points shopping with brands that have a Hilton relationship or using the Hilton Honors American Express card. The card offers a complimentary silver honors and 6 points for every dollar spent on eligible purchases. I do not have this card although I live by the benefits of having an American Express card and have been a loyal card holder for more than a decade.
I will sit here decompressing and dreaming of our next holiday where we will definitely consider planning a hotel holiday. We deserve a little vacation from laundry and dishes and all those activities of daily living.
So, I ask you once again…do you hotel for the holidays?
