Romance Year Round Brought to you by Dr. Oetker {Giveaway}

Valentine’s day is now far behind us and why should we keep all our lovin’ ways for just one day?  For us, Valentine’s day doesn’t mean much, but for parents of three pre-schoolers, keeping the romance alive means everything.  Our marriage is the most important part of having a healthy family. I can tell you now though, it is not always easy, this romance stuff.

Some Obvious Ways to Keep the Flames Burning

Of course you could take fantastic child free vacations to some incredibly romantic island where you get served boat drinks all day, stare at crystal blue waters, read a romance novel, get a little tan, check in for your massage, get dressed up and feel all sexy, have a lovely meal and finally walk hand in hand back to your million thread count sheets.  Yeah, that would do it.  It would also cost thousands of dollars and who the heck would watch the kids?

Okay, you could also get a babysitter for a whole day and do the pampering thing a little closer to home.  Maybe play some tennis, grab lunch, go window shopping, have dinner and arrive home to a home full of sleeping children.  Still sounds expensive doesn’t it?  And still hard to find a whole day without soccer games or gymnastics or work.

A More Achievable Flame Starter

Having a regular date night can keep the romance alive, but I find it takes a lot of time to get through all those family related topics you never have time to finish and they never make me feel romantic.  By the time we get to just laughing and chatting like we used to do we are on are way home and dead tired.  Still, this one is a keeper, we just need to skip to the good stuff.

My big tip here is to start your date night at 4 p.m.  Get the sitter for 4 hours or however long it will take for you to miss dinner and come home after bedtime.  You get a good long time together and if you can throw an activity in there besides a movie you will have time to enjoy an experience and eat dinner and talk for 4 hours and not have to deal with cooking or bedtime.  Win-win-win-win.  It’s a little pricey for that 4 hours, but totally worth saving up for.

A Few Things Anyone Can Do to Kick Up the Passion

Say nice things to each other.  Seriously, we say so many things that are negative or asking the other person to do something or just general moaning.  It is amazing what a compliment can do for a marriage.  A little “honey, you look hot” is great, but it is more than just physical stuff.  Appreciate each other and you will find that a lot of your pet peeves start to dissipate.  When we are made to feel good about ourselves, a lot less bothers us.  Marriages can break with enough things bothering a couple.  And when you are just bothered by things, you are not hot and bothered.

Do something nice for your partner.  Something you don’t normally do.  And don’t tell them you did it or remind them how awesome you are. That sort of defeats the point. Just start saying nice things and doing nice things and it will bring you closer.

Make some alone time.  Simple, I know, but so hard to come by.  When the kids are in bed, sit together and take a few moments.  Be near each other.  Like you were before you had kids.

Take a load off.  Expectations on parents are high.  The one I hate is dinner.  I am not good at it, I forget to plan, I like my kitchen for crafts and not for cooking.  I basically fail all over the place at dinner.  I am lover of grilled cheese and soup and other simple things.  It’s okay to not cook every night.  And hey, taking the stress out of one part of your day may make for a better evening!

If you are wondering if easting an awesome pizza I didn’t have to cook and having my whole family like it makes me feel more romantic, the answer is HELL YEAH!  If bedtime goes smoothly too it’s like nookie becomes a huge possibility!

You can have this too.

Dr. Oetker’s Ristorante frozen pizza features fresh, high-quality ingredients on a thin crispy crust. These pies give you Italian restaurant style pizza taste without paying restaurant style prices.  And I mean it.  Dr. Oetker’s pizzas are priced from $4.99 to $5.99.  They are smaller than the regular pizzas but plenty for my husband and me and at this price you could choose 2 flavors and still come in less than other brands or delivery!

We tried the Mozzarella and it was actually thin and crispy.  The tomatoes tasted fresh and it was all kinds of yummy.  I don’t eat mushrooms because I am one of the pickiest eaters on the planet but my husband and neighbor devoured the Funghi flavor.  They were making funny groaning noises.  You know the ones when people really like something.  There are six varieties and I can’t wait to try the Quattro Formaggi.  This girl is all about cheese.

Cheese in itself might make me feel romantic.  Yeah, I like it that much. Dr. Oetker Mozzarella
