Serta iComfort Sleep System {Review & Giveaway}

posted in: Giveaways, Reviews 204 comments

I can’t even begin to tell you how I feel about my new iComfort Sleep System from Serta.  I absolutely adore it.  Every comfy inch.  It is hands down the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in my life and the whole family agrees.  We regularly party as a family of 5 in the mornings in bed.  Of course, I am over the moon to have one myself and I will tell you all about it but I am at least as excited to give one away to one wonderful and lucky reader!  That’s one good looking mattress don’t you think?

Serta iComfort

I don’t know about you, but I was sleeping on a mattress that never really gave me a good night’s sleep.  After having 3 kids I continued to have problems with my back and neck and often woke up with aches and pains.  I felt much older than my 33 years and I knew we needed a change but mattress shopping can be really difficult and I did not know exactly what we were looking for.  Lucky for me, the perfect choice landed in front of me!

Last year I was asked to tour the Serta Mattress headquarters and factory with 7 other fabulous bloggers and I can honestly say we were blown away by the care and quality that goes into all of these mattresses and that effort Serta put into making their workplace as much of a haven as possible for their employees.  At the end of the tour we got to test all of the iComfort models and choose one for our own homes.  We had no trouble rolling around together on these beds and playing with the massage and adjustments. I think we were all a little in love with the comfort level.

A Little About the iComfort

The iComfort is a memory foam mattress, but Serta has totally changed the game.  Everyone loves the pressure relieving aspects of memory foam beds and the fact that they don’t need different numbers to be great for different sleepers.  Yes, I know people love to wonder if you can really rest a glass of wine on one, but I have not tried that.  What many people complained about with memory foam was that it slept hot, that they sunk in or that it was hard to change positions.  Well, Serta changed all that!  Memory foam technology hadn’t changed much in 40 years and Serta rocked that boat and has a frame that is adjustable and gives a massage!

The gel microbeads in the iComfort will not only move to the parts of your body that need more support (instead of just allowing your whole body to sink) but they also have an open cell structure that allows airflow and actually takes heat away from your body.  I can tell your from experience that both me and my husband sleep hot and we have no complaints in the iComfort.  After a few months, we are still as giddy about this bed as the first day.

Hello Luxury Adjustable Bed!

I have to admit, I was more than little curious about an adjustable base on my bed.  However, I adored being able to adjust my hospital bed when I had my babies and I thought it might be fun to have.  Fun is not the right word.  I adore it.  Not only does it help to relieve pressure on my back if I am reading or typing (the TV / PC setting rocks) but it allows us to elevate our legs if I need specific relief in my lower back or to help my circulation.  I actually really messed up my tailbone over Christmas when I smashed it into the corner of a table and guess what?  They only place I am totally comfortable sitting is in my bed.  We also pile in bed and let the kids put the back up for books.  They love it!  The adjustable base is more expensive, but in this case if I could afford it, I would go for it.  You spend a lot of time in bed and should spend what you can afford to have the most restful night of sleep possible.

Serta Mattress Adjustable Base

The iComfort Models

You can love a firm bed and love the iComfort.  Like regular mattresses, Serta has incorporated 4 comfort levels to the iComfort.  We got to try them all and really, they are all wonderful.  However, out of 7 women every bed was picked by at least one person.  We are all different!

From the right, you are looking at the Insight, the Genius, the Revolution and the Prodigy.  The Insight is the basic iComfort model.  The Genius is for lovers of extra firm beds.  The Revolution (the bed we chose) is a big old balance between firm support and plush comfort on the top.  The Prodigy is for all those cushy pillow top lovers out there.  Serta has also released a new model, the Renewal Refined, which I have not tried.  It is like the ultimate bed, with 5 layers of luxurious foam, gel and support.

iComfort Choices

One thing you should note with the iComfort beds is that the “box spring” is upholstered like the edge of the mattress and looks really good.  I have not gotten around to building my headboard yet and this is not bothering me with this bed.  However, the adjustable base will fit inside a standard bed frame as long as it is well supported and the legs are removed.  If you keep the legs on, they are a very good looking dark brown.  Also note space requirements.  For queens and smaller, the base is one piece, so make sure it will fit up the stairs or in your elevator!  We finally got the king bed I have dreamed of and I am glad because that base comes in two pieces.  I don’t think the queen would have fit up the strange staircase in this old house.

The iComfort models run from around $899 for a twin XL insight with a standard box spring to $3499 for the Renewal Refined in a King with a standard box spring.  The adjustable base is about $1600 for a king.

What Makes a Serta Mattress Special?

Touring the Serta headquarters and main factory was an eye opener.  I was happy to hear that 95% of Serta’s materials are made right here in the U.S.A.  Did you know it takes about an hour to make a mattress at Serta?  That means that they can have a lean process where mattresses are not made unless they are ordered.  They don’t have to hold tons of inventory, because your mattress is made for you.  Watching a mattress get made was super fun, not only because I love machines, but because I love watching men sew.   The iComfort is Serta’s newest addition and is a memory foam mattress.  Of course, they have a full line of mattresses with the traditional innerspring support system inside layers of soft comfort levels.  Serta also uses a proprietary blend of fibers to create their Fireblocker layer, which helps to isolate the impact of a fire and prevent the spread of flames.

Serta tests each mattress configuration rigorously to make sure that your mattress will last and remain comfortable for a good long time.  They have machines that simulate sleep and ones that behave like your crazy jumping child if he was a lot heavier and jumped for months straight.  I am pretty sure that was my favorite!

Depending on which mattress they are making, somewhere between 2-5 layers will go into the comfort level (that’s the top part that makes you happy) and be sewn together by this baby.

Mattress Sewer

It comes out looking very like a mattress top right?

Sewn Mattress Top

After the top layers are sewn and the frame is given corner supports it is ready to be sewn together and literally goes very quickly from a cool mess to a very comfy bed!  Here you can see the top and bottom pieces with the fabric edge added to come around the frame.  They are stapled on using a very cool looking staple gun that I did not get to try.  Sad panda.  I love tools.

Top and Bottom This awesomeness is inside.  Yes, please!

Comfy Foam

Then Mr. Awesome (any man who sews earns that title) sews it all together and voila!  A brand new mattress!

Sew Mattress Together

Win Your Own Serta iComfort Sleep System!

Any Size, any style and any base.  Yep, you choose your perfect night’s sleep!  I am over the moon to offer this to you.  This is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in and I am proud to share the iComfort with you and also Serta’s commitment to making the world’s best mattress.  That tagline totally fits.

This is a huge prize and I am offering a few ways you can win but make sure you do the mandatory entry and tell me in the comments about your mattress and what you want in a new one.

Good Luck!

Disclosure: Serta  sent me the Revolution iComfort Sleep System with Adjustable base and they paid for my travel costs to attend the iComfort Blogger Experience as well as a stipend for tax purposes.  The opinions and reviews here are my own and have not been changed or altered by anyone else.  This is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in.  Even fancy hotels pale in comparison.  That’s my opinion.

We just got a new mattress a couple years ago, but it’s already sagging and I’m having a hard time getting comfortable. After you spend all that money on a mattress, you expect it to last longer than a couple years.

Hi! What a great giveaway! Thank you for the opportunity. Our mattress right now is 12 years old! Every time one of those commercials comes on about how your are supposed to buy a mattress every 7 years and they describe how disgusting it is if you don’t I cringe! My husband and I have needed a new mattress for some time now I would say. Our mattress dents down in the middle, needless to say, it is just not even comfortable to get into bed anymore. We have talked about trying to save for one because they are so expensive, but then something else comes up that we have to pay for. If we won this giveaway we would be so grateful! Thanks again for the opportunity :)

We NEED a new mattress! Hubby has been whining about needing one for years now and it just keeps getting put off and put off. We’ve looked at the Sertas and they’re definitely on our fave list. Since my husband and I both have very labor intensive jobs a good night’s sleep is super important to us. We like a very cushy bed with some support and definitely need a King size as we are both tall and tend to toss and turn. Hope this is our lucky break! Love your reviews Brittany!

This was no cheap mattress, either. We had never had that problem before. What makes it even worse is that we can’t flip it because it is a one sided mattress. I have a Serta mattress, but it’s 28 years old. I know this because we bought it when I was pregnant with my daughter. It was a very comfortable mattress, but is really past it’s prime now and not so comfortable. I toss and turn all night and still wake up with a sore back and sore hips. I really need a new mattress but after some major unexpected bills late last year it won’t happen anytime soon. Before all that happened and I was starting to research mattresses I was really interested in a memory foam but was concerned when I read that they sleep hot, so I’m really intrigued by this Serta line.

I’ve been sleeping on the same uncomfortable bed for several years now. I actually get a better night’s sleep on my couch. I’ve always been afraid to buy memory foam. Your review has changed my mind. I’m looking for firm yet soft at the same time. The revolution seems to be the right match for me. I haven’t bought a new bed in the past for the simple reason that I had no clue what to get, no idea how to bed shop. When I bought the bed I have now, I did the old go sit, lay, and bounce on it a bit at the store. It seemd right at first but after a few months, it just wasn’t the great bed I thought it was when I bought it.

I have a really uncomfortable mattress at the moment and I would LOVE to have a comfortable mattress to sleep on, maybe then I could finally get a good night of sleep, the current mattress we sleep on is horrible, its not hard, not soft its just plain bad, we have had it for 6 yrs and we thought about getting a new mattress for quite awhile before we replaced our previous one which was also terrible (and at the time only 3 yrs old) when we bought our current mattress we thought it was exactly what we wanted, it wasnt too firm or too soft, and its a pillow top ( I cant remember the brand) We checked out several stores and mattresses before we bought it at JC Pennys, there we tried many of them out before deciding on our purchase, but after the first night of sleeping on it I have hated it, I wake up with a back ache every morning, I mean every stinkin morning, my husband prefers firm over softer and this was kinda in the middle, I didnt want one so firm it would be similar to sleeping on the floor, so we agreed on this one but it is just horrible and I would really love to get a new mattress, I think I complain about this mattress almost every morning to my husband who agrees that yes we need to get a new one as soon as we can afford it, but I know it will be a while when that happens, especially since I am no longer working (perm laid off 2 yrs ago) so its not in our budget or on our list of important priorities at the moment, for myself I love softness like what comes with a pillow top but I also want support to avoid that terrible backache, we have stayed in hotels that had extremely comfortable beds that I didnt want to ever get out of and then there were some that felt more like sleeping on a rock, mattress shopping is so stressful and it is different once you get it home and sleep an entire night on it, I have heard so many good things about the Serta iComfort mattress that I am really anxious to try one out myself, I trust Serta and after reading many reviews including yours I am convinced its the right choice for our next mattress.
    Thanks for the awesome giveaway

Well, my mattress is a basic memory foam bed. I bought it at a warehouse sale for three hundred dollars. It’s comfortable and all. That’s not my complaint. I realize I got a heck of a deal on it too.

But I’m still ready to throw it out the window :)

I’m a little…oh shall we say…hormonally challenged and this bed just wants to wrap itself around me all night long and it makes me crazy. I feel like it’s smothering me in heat. Sometimes, I dread getting in to bed. Seriously.

Winter is a bit more bearable, but summer’s a bummer for sure!

My husband had a soft pillow-top mattress when we got together & I had an antique bed with an antique (custom made/sized) mattress that was super firm. When we got married we just used his bed, and after a couple of years he started having severe back problems; me too. We switched back to the firm antique bed to see if that made a difference, and it did; both our backs are better, but not great, and the antique mattress is giving out. We need a new bed! I’m 32 with a bad back! It’s ridiculous the things that pop when I stretch in the morning!

Where to start with our mattress, it is terrible! Hard and uncomfortable. We are constantly getting egg crates for it and trying to make it work but it really sucks. We were young, mid 20s when we built our house and didn’t realize the benefits of a decent mattress. It’s on our list to replace but so many more necessary things are in front of it since it is still sleep-able!!

A new iComfort Sleep System from Serta? Oh, Brittany, I can’t tell you how much this would improve my life!

When my wife and I decided to separate three years ago, I inherited the mattress from our guest bedroom. The mattress had once belonged to a friend, who passed it along to us 11 years ago when we moved to Washington, D.C. It was a fine mattress at the time, but by the time I moved into my own small apartment, it was reaching the end of its useful life.

Last week, I moved into a new home, a nice little townhouse that’s just right for me and a growing boy. We had been sharing a room in my apartment, and now he has his own room. I was able to buy him a big boy bed and his own dresser for the first time. The ol’ mattress traveled with us to the new house and I’d love to replace it.

My back has been aching for several years. Part of its poor posture, but part of its that old mattress, too. I can feel the springs when I sleep at night. It’s time for something new. I recently tested a memory foam mattress and LOVED it! The iComfort mattress looks so comfortable. I immediately have a vision of a peaceful, comfortable night’s sleep.

Whoever wins it will be a lucky sleeper!

It creaked every time I moved my pregnant belly and I wasn’t getting ANY sleep! We bought ourselves a new one and it was great for a while…but now only 3 years later, it has a big bump in the middle–it has sunk down on each side living a high ridge lengthwise in the center of the bed! We call it “The Great Divide”! We try to take turns sleeping on it to press it down, but it is super uncomfortable! If only we would have know then what you just told us about the iComfort Sleep System! Thanks for the opportunity, Brittany :)

So, we regularly have all 4 of us in the bed! As much as we love all cuddling up together, our double mattress just cannot take it any more and there is just not enough room for us to snuggle. We’ve tried several different mattresses from many different stores, but have still not been able to find the “right one”. We’ve never been so fortunate to try a Serta mattress! Kindof embarrassing to write here, but I currently have an old hospital bed since I had back surgery in 97 and ended up with nerve damage. I cannot lay flat and have to be elevated to keep my back and hip from spasming. :( The old mattress I have right now is so old and beat up, I have to have two toppers on top to make it comfortable. :( I recently adopted a new dog from a shelter that had been looking for a new forever home for over 3 months and he is doing so good but loves to sleep with me in bed. LOL Kindof hard with my back and my furbaby on this small twin. I would love a full size adjustable bed so that I do not have to sleep in this old hospital bed anymore and my new furbaby and I could spread out more. Its so embarrassing to have anyone stop over to the house…I do not want them to see my bed. :(

I just bought a new mattress about 3 years ago. It already sags & I wake up every morning aching & crabby! After a looong prenancy with twins (at the ripe old age of 41),& a torn rotator cuff, this haggard, tired old body would love one of these! I tried one out at Macy’s & fell for it.
    SO comfy.sigh.

I was torn between the Revolution and Renewal Refined with an adjustable base. I think the Renewal Refined is the winner. The mattress I purchased from Marshall Field (when they were still in business) about 10 years ago has gone trapezoidal on me in the past couple of years. I would never buy a mattress from Macy’s at this point because I feel the salesman gave me a bum deal on a subpar mattress, that’s why I’m looking for a new one. After trying memory foam in the store, I just can’t get myself to go back to a traditional spring mattress.

HOLY MOLY do you have to read all of these comments??! :) Well there is a pocket in my bed that I snuggle in from years of wear and tear. My hubby is a big man with a bad bad back and I’m no spring chicken chasing around twins. The 4 of us love to snuggle in bed with our 2 big rescue dogs. You can clearly see indentations from where S slept over the years ! haha We really can’t afford a new one and are fine with the ways things are since I’m sure there is a more deserving prospect out there But BOY we would LOVE a new bed like this! Good luck to all! :)

My mattress is old and lumpy…and thanks to kids jumping on, very creaky. It makes my back hurt and frankly, it has overstated its welcome!

i have had the same mattress for, uh, 22 years. it is a twin mattress and my feet stick off the end. My dad said he would buy me a new one when I reached that point… at age 13 or so but that never happened and even though i moved out i havent been able to save up money for anything more than a mattress pad. :(

I’m actually sleeping on the couch for a few more months until we finally get a home to live in. I got custody of my niece last year and now she has taken my room and though I thought my mattress was average at the time, I can honestly say I REALLY miss it now!

We bought a Denver Mattress. It seemed good for about 6 months and then it started to have indentions where we laid. Although we’ve flipped our mattress every couple months, it has increasingly gotten worse. I end up sleeping on the couch most of the time.

  • The new mattress would be for my guest bed room. We currently have a mattress in there that is over 40 years old. NO JOKE! It was handed down to us from my hubby’s family. Its stained, dusty, and we have to use a sheet on the top and bottom of the mattress AND box springs to hide how ugly it is. There is a dip in the middle so large, that we have to put pillows under the center of the mattress just to make the bed a level sleeping area!

    • oops! told you all about my nightmare bed and forgot to say what I want in a new bed! LOL After re-reading what you said and showed about this awesome giveaway with my hubby, I seriously think that we may use the bed if I win it and put our mattress in the guest room instead. LOL I just want a bed that will allow me to wake refreshed from a long night’s good sleep where I am not waking up over and over to get comfy, don’t wake up with my back killing me worse than when I went to bed, and one that my hubby likes too. We currently have a Tempurpedic knock-off and like it a lot, but this sound even better!

I get SO hot when I sleep because of my mattress. When I wake up I’m hot to the touch and can’t put my wedding ring on because my fingers are swollen. I’d love a bed that keeps me cool!

Well, our current mattress was purchased at a garage sale from an elderly couple who was moving into a retirement home. I have no idea how long they had it, but it’s really old. It’s held up for a while now, but really, it’s time to let it go. Noone should have to sleep on someone elses mattress, should they? We really need a nice soft mattress, this would be a dream and it’d cause lots of dreams too!

Our current mattress is only a little over 5 years old, but it’s already past time for a new one. We got it at IKEA because we, like most people, are on a budget. I like that it’s supportive and firm, but it’s not very comfortable. Is it possible to be firm and soft at the same time? That’s what I’d like :)

We just got ours, thanks foretelling us about it. I now am writing this message on my icomfort renewal refined mattress and I love it. We bought it at http://www.jensbeds.com and they have a very informative comfort guide that helped us decide which one. My husband and I are side sleepers so we went with one of the softest mattresess icomfort makes.

Thanks again for letting us know about icomfort!!

We bought an Icomfort memory foam mattress (not the adjustable bed, just the mattress & box spring that fits on our existing bedframe.) I must say I sweat sleeping in this bed & I can’t afford another one, still paying for this one. It too has the gel stuff to keep you cool, if only that were true. I am truly disappointed with this aspect of the mattress, I don’t get a good nights sleep, and that was the reason we got it in the first place as I have back pain. If you can offer me a mattress that lives up to the hype about not getting hot, I will give you the one I have!
